For day 3 I figured I do something a little different. Although I’ve been doing gesture drawings for years, I guess I never really focused on the shapes/anatomy in the figure for both humans and animals as much as I would have liked.

I was introduced to gesture drawing in my life drawing class at college, but I don’t recall ever actually learning it to be honest. Although I understood the idea, I was never really able to execute it the way I wanted or the way I saw other people approach it. All I know is that I need more and more practice when it comes to doing gestures and seeing the motion involved by using a few quick lines.
A year ago I attempted to work on some but I didn’t keep up with it and I’m slightly disappointed. That’s alright, i’m fixing that mistake now! 🙂 I did my best to focus on shapes and anatomy at the time, but I just wasn’t grasping it. My lines are stiff and I really was lacking confidence in myself to be bold.
I checked out some tutorials on youtube and added them to my pinterest (kjillustration) to guide me along and to see how other people tackle their gesture drawings. I decided to watch and follow along with what they did and it really helped me to grasp and understand how do go about doing it for myself and to find some confidence. It took me about 3 hours of non stop video watching and practicing!
…and so the list continues
Day 4 should be some fun!! Time to work on those gesture drawings on my own! I’ll probably start with the human figure first! 🙂 weeeeeeeeeeeee
